Grammar & Culture lessons

Postby OneUFO1 on Thu Mar 19, 2009 6:34 am

ni hao

prepare yourself for a dumb newbie question........ (gulp)

can someone please help me find the Grammar and Culture lessons?

we have downloaded audio and corresponding PDF transcripts, but can't seem to find the Grammar and Culture lessons. (umm... it is late though and i can hardly keep my lil eyes open, so that may have something to do with it) we looked everywhere in the download area and clicked on everything twice!!

if there's one thing i need... it's definately grammar and culture :)

thanks in advance, Amanda in Minnesota

I'm hijacking this thread, since it seems to have the right heading.

These pages can be displayed on screen or printed out, but many of the characters with diacritics (especially the third tone ones) are not displayed properly on a standard Windows setup. I'd like to suggest a solution: instead of delivering them as formatted text, deliver them in pdf format (or provide this as an alternative), so that the pinyin characters are all displayed correctly. (Of course, the unusual sizes of paper used in North America may necessitate using two versions.)

On a similar note, I'd like to see the 汉字 shown in a larger font size than the romanised script, for two reasons - one is because the nature of these characters makes a larger font size appropriate, since they are more detailed (and if you start providing a version using traditional characters, as I think you intend to do at some stage, then that will be even more the case), and the other reason is that those of us that want to learn the Chinese characters (I think I can speak for everyone in this position) would prefer these to be more prominent than the romanised script.

Hi there,

thank you very much for your comments.
We are currently in the process of revamping the members area. The new members area will show the characters in a bigger font and also help with some of the display problems of pinyin. There will also be an "easy print" function.
We hope to have the new members area up and running in the next two months.

I will let you know once it's live.
If you have any other suggestions please let me know. :D
Thank you!

The problem of the third tone still seems to be an issue; any plans to correct them yet?
